Bringing data to life: Get a healthy dose of data in our final webinar of 2024

From regular exercise to five-a-day, we all know what adds up to good health. But there’s also a lesser-known part to the equation and that’s data: the evidence and numbers that allow us to track the health of our nation and uncover where vital health resources are needed most.

Join us on Thursday 12 December to learn about people’s changing life expectancy, what the picture of health looks like across the country, and how we are continually ‘taking the pulse’ of our nation.

A healthy outlook

You’ll hear from experts from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and Public Health Wales (PHW) who’ll be giving unique insights into a variety of UK health statistics, how they are produced and how they’re utilised to help us form a picture of the nation’s health.

In addition to exploring how health data is de-identified and kept secure, ONS’s Dr Amie Fairs will discuss the complex landscape of health inequalities, which tell us how people’s health and cause of death changes based on personal characteristics, or what region they’re from.

She’ll also show you how to use our ‘Explore local statistics’ tool to get a better picture of health in your local area, from the number of people who smoke cigarettes to healthy life expectancy and cancer diagnosis percentages.

Our latest work to link health to employment prospects and wealth will also be on the agenda, including our latest findings on the impact of bariatric surgery on monthly employee pay and status.

Improving people’s lives

We will also be joined by Rhys Powell, Advanced Public Health Intelligence Analyst at PHW. He will discuss their work to protect and improve health and well-being and reduce health inequalities for the people of Wales. Come along to hear more about the official statistics PHW produces and how their work helps to support the lives of people at risk of type 2 diabetes.
