Social care: Estimating the size of the self-funding population

Currently, the data on people who self-fund their care is limited. With differences in how data is collected in local authorities and by care providers, there is a significant gap in understanding how care is funded and the impact that has on the adult social care sector. Evie Brown from the ONS, along with Josefine Magnusson from Future Care Capital (FCC), explain how we’re working together to help fill this evidence gap.

Developing the Health Index for England

In 2018, Dame Sally Davies, then Chief Medical Officer, called for an official index on England’s health. Her aim was to ensure that “health is recognised and treated as one of our nation’s primary assets…alongside GDP and the Measuring National Well-being programme.” As consultation on the proposed index gets under way, Greg Ceely explains the development work ONS has undertaken so far and what the provisional findings show.

Informing the pandemic response: What’s next from the ONS?
